So tonight I am in Hot Springs, Arkansas with Abby, after almost a week off from blogging. So I have a quick summary of the wonderful days spent with Josh and Allie and Tom and Abby in Rowe, New Mexico. Then I will attempt a post for the days since Abby and I have hit the road!
(Sunday, July 20)
Today is the last day of our visit to New Mexico. It has been restful, fun, touristy, and full
of wonderful family time. Josh and Allie
are gracious hosts, and have made us so comfortable that it will be hard to
leave. Abby and Tom arrived about 12
hours late thanks to airline complications, but we have still managed plenty of
relaxing time together.
On the way from Alamosa Thursday morning, we stopped at the
Rio Grande Gorge in Taos – wow! Hard to
imagine what it would have been like to find this gorge while traveling by
horseback across the desert – whoops! As
we traveled south it was fun to watch the river raft tours floating by.
We made it to Santa Fe in time to meet Josh and Allie for
lunch on Josh’s lunch break, so we started out with our green chili (and beer)
fix right away. That evening Allie treated
us to her amazing green chili chicken stew, and without our expected drive to
the airport that night we played hours of games instead!
Friday we all met in Santa Fe again for lunch, after picking
up Abby and Tom from the airport – yay!
We had a relaxing afternoon and evening back in Rowe, catching up. Then Abby and Tom took off for Santa Fe again
to the B & B that we had all reserved as a surprise for their fifth
anniversary – that day! We met them
there the next morning for a walk to the Santa Fe Farmer’s Market.
Then we split up by gender roles, and the men
took my car off to the shop for an oil change and so they could wait for it - at
the brewery of course. Allie, Abby and I
got to do more shopping and touring – the local artisans across from the
market, the galleries lining Canyon Road, and a contemporary art exhibit which
happened to be free for the day.
Chillin’ at home that night with more games, green chili burgers on the
grill (a bit of a theme), and a beer tasting from the Josh Browne Brewery (he
had 14 varieties but we only tasted 6 – delicious!)
Tonight we head for the Albuquerque Isotopes baseball game,
and then taking Dick and Tom to their hotel for their early morning flight back
to New England. Abby and I have been
looking at our trip back – Rowe to Stow!
Lots of stops planned on the way!
Green chilies and beer, that's a theme I can support.
